A Message from Mrs. Klein
Welcome to Mt. Washington School — Home of the Knights!
Thank you for your interest in our school. Mt. Washington School is a K–6 neighborhood school, with a College Prep Magnet program for grades 4–6 and a district Head Start pre-school program. We offer a diverse population with approximately 400 students from a wide range of backgrounds.
We are very proud of our school and what it has to offer. All students receive instruction in the core areas: reading, math, science, social studies, writing and receive Latin, music and physical education classes weekly. Art is provided to all students on a bi-weekly basis. Computer experiences are provided to all students in grades K–2 twice a week in our Mac and PC labs and daily in grades 3–6 classrooms. We also offer band and strings to interested students. Our after-school program offers an extension of the school day where students participate in a variety of academic tutoring, STEM, art and health and wellness enrichment activities, all free of charge.
Teachers at Mt. Washington School are highly trained and committed to the education of all students. Teachers use data, along with parent input, to make the best instructional decisions for your children. We believe each child should be treated individually and services should be in place to allow for the best opportunity of success.
We are also very proud to be a Community Learning Center, which focuses on providing services to students, families and the community. We have co-located partners on site that provide health and wellness services, afterschool enrichment programming, mental health services and parent education classes. We also have countless other partners, including community volunteers and an active PTO, that support our school.
Any student in grades K–6 living in the Mt. Washington neighborhood can become a Mt. Washington Knight! Students wishing to enroll in the College Prep program must meet the testing requirements and live on the east side of I-75 to receive transportation. This Street Layout Guide gives elementary neighborhood school assignments and areas for a specific street address. Pre-school students must enroll by calling the district Early Childhood Department at 363-0000. For more information, please visit How to Enroll Your Child in Our Neighborhood School. I hope that you will find our school to be the best place to send your child.
Our vision statement says it all — Mt. Washington School will redefine what is possible! We will be unsurpassed in serving the wide-ranging needs of our students and engaging the community. We are Forever... Inspired... Together.
Please come and visit! I would love to meet you and take you on a tour. We are ready to offer a quality education and experience to your child and your family.
